The East Hartford Department of Youth Services is a municipal agency established in 1971. It has played an integral role in the Town's effort to maintain a high quality of life for our youth and their families. The Department of Youth Services provides a wide range of services including therapeutic counseling and positive youth development programs as well as educational and cultural enrichment programs to help meet the needs of East Hartford youth and their families.
In September of 2007, East Hartford Mayor Melody A. Currey formed the At-Risk Youth Task Force to tackle the issues of juvenile crime and delinquency. Members of the Task Force include the East Hartford Police Department, the East Hartford Public Schools and Board of Education, and the Department of Youth Services.
As part of the community's comprehensive goal, a Coordinator was hired to oversee the effort. Outreach Workers were hired by Youth Services to communicate with and provide links to services available within the community to our youth and their families and to re-direct them into pro-social activities.
Individual and business support of the program is a key to success. By such involvement, our youth will become proud adult members of the East Hartford community. Youth Services would like to thank the following for their support.
