Youth Services, in conjunction with the East Hartford Board of Education, State Department of Education, Department of Children and Families and the juvenile court system, identify and address community needs by their participation as members of:
The Juvenile Review Board: meets weekly to provide the community with a confidential means to identify and assist youth that are involved in criminal or risky behaviors. The Juvenile Review Board’s purpose is to divert juveniles under the age of 16 who have had contact with the East Hartford Police and juvenile court when appropriate, as well as providing meaningful age appropriate non-judicial alternatives. The Juvenile Review Board enhances coordination of services to youth by directing them to local resources and service providers to address juvenile criminal or at risk behaviors.
East Hartford Child Plan, Inc. and the Youth Advisory Board: meets to identify and address needs and concerns of youth in East Hartford. Members of the board represent a cross section of the community, i.e. parents, teachers, students, YMCA and local elected officials. They also distribute grant funds to the agencies that provide prevention programs such as Project Graduation, Teen Center, etc. The Youth Advisory Board also provides a forum for High School youth to assist in the development of goals for the Department of Youth Services.
Hockanum & Silver Lane Family Resources Advisory Council: meets to discuss ways to improve the community through parenting and babysitting programs and to improve family relations. Other members of the council include Headstart, Family Resources and Birth to 3, the General education Council, Police, and local business.
