About Us
The East Hartford Police Department was founded in November of 1895 with the appointment of one police officer, Patrolman John C. Bogue. ~The Department has since grown to employ 135 sworn officers and 40 civilian employees, headquartered at the Public Safety Complex at 31 School Street.

The EHPD, the largest Connecticut police department East of the Connecticut River, is a full service law enforcement agency, providing 24-hour service and protection to our community and its residents. ~Our main contact phone number is (860) 528-4401.

The Department is divided into the Office of the Chief of Police and three bureaus; the Criminal Investigations Bureau, Management Services Bureau, and Operations Bureau.

The Department, in conjunction with the East Hartford Fire Department, is responsible for town-wide public safety communications.

The Department also utilizes numerous special units to accomplish its mission, including an Accident Reconstruction Team, K-9, Tactical Response Team, Marine Patrol, and Bicycle Patrol, as well as membership in regional efforts such as the Hartford Police Bomb Squad, Capitol Region Dive Team, Urban Search and Rescue Team, and Regional Incident Dispatch Team.
