The Town has committed approximately 650 acres of Town land to recreational usage. Recreational areas available for public use include playgrounds, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, picnic areas, tennis and basketball courts, a public golf course, ball fields, a boat launch on the Connecticut River, an ice skating area, and much more. The Parks and Recreation Department also offers shelters that may be reserved for picnics, a historic building that may be rented for small group meetings, and a clubhouse which may be used for wedding receptions and meetings. Three historic buildings in one park are open for tours throughout the year.
The Department also sponsors numerous events including the Annual Fall Fest, Visit with Santa, July Riverfest, the "Sounds of Summer" concert series at the EH Town Green. Throughout the year we host numerous road races including the "Brian Aselton Snow Dash", Memorial Mile, Riverfest 5K and Alumni Cross Country Challenge. The Parks and Recreation Department holds a wide range of recreational programs and classes year round and sponsors an exciting selection of bus trips to destinations throughout the New England area and the East Coast.

I.D. Policy
The Parks & Recreation Department issues photo identification cards to children 7-15 years old providing official proof of residency is shown.  Some acceptable forms of identification are magazines, bank statement, medical bill, etc. no older than thirty days.  We will also accept report cards, birth certificate, social security, insurance cards if we are able to match the name to the parent's name on a driver's license.  The fee is $6.00 for a three year identification. Residents ages 16 and over must present a valid State of CT Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or CT Non-Driver Photo ID Card which indicates their East Hartford address to access programs.  These can be obtained from the State of CT Motor Vehicle Dept.
Refund Policy
Refunds will not be issued unless a program is canceled by the Parks and Recreation Department.
Registration Information
All programs in this brochure are open for registration unless otherwise specified. The Parks and Recreation Dept. reserves the right to cancel any program, which does not meet minimum enrollment requirements.  Registration must be done in advance.  In order to insure the continuance of each program, registrations must be made at least one week before the start of the program unless otherwise indicated.
Payment

Payment is due with registration for all trips and other programs.  Advanced payment is required for all programs.  All checks or money orders must be made payable to the “TOWN OF EAST HARTFORD” and can be either mailed to the Parks and Recreation Department office, 50 Chapman Place, East Hartford, CT  06108 or delivered in person.

Credit Card Payments Are Accepted

You now have the ability to pay by Visa, Master Card and Discovery credit cards as payment for program registrations and facility reservations.

Publicity

All information regarding any Parks  & Recreation activities will be published weekly in the East Hartford Gazette.

Cancellation Policy & Information

When schools are closed due to inclement weather, all recreation activities scheduled in school facilities will be canceled for that day/evening. Activities will be canceled on major holidays: Good Friday (March 21) and Memorial Day (May 26). Cancellation announcements can be heard on the following radio stations:  WTIC 1080 AM Storm Center,  WFSB-TV 3, WDRC 1360 AM,  WVIT-TV CT News 30 Snow Alert System and WTNH-TV 8.
