Melody Currey, present-07', Mayor of East Hartford, having been elected in November of 2005. Previously, Melody served as the State Representative 1993, from the 10th Assembly District to the Connecticut State House of Representatives up until December of 2005. In recognition of her tireless efforts, Representative Currey received awards from regional, state and local organizations such as the New England Board of Higher Education for Individual Achievement, Connecticut Police Chief’s Association and East Hartford Service to Youth
Award.
Melody has given most of her adult life to community and public service in East Hartford, particularly involved with children’s issues and senior citizen issues. Throughout her service she has been a member of countless organizations in and out of the Legislature, including the Education Committee, Financial Aid Task Force, Neighborhood Revitalization, East Hartford PTOs, ChildPlan, Inc., and the East Hartford Democratic Town Committee.
Melody is married to Donald and they have three children and three grandchildren: daughter Becky married to Eric Johansen with granddaughter, Lily Parker Johansen; son Jeff Currey; and son Matt and wife Danielle with grandsons Matthew Aaron and Devin Daniel Currey. All three children live in town and are homeowners. Their ever faithful family dog, Deebo, rounds out the Currey household.
As Mayor, Melody serves as Chair of CRCOG, as an Executive Board member of Riverfront Recapture and CIRMA, on the Executive Committee of MetroHartford Alliance, and is First Vice President of CCM along with Co-Chair of the School Readiness Council and Ex-Officio member of ChildPlan, Inc.
