Senior Centers
East Hartford has two senior centers located in the North End at 30 Remington Road and in the South End at 70 Canterbury Street. The facilities are open to all East Hartford residents age 55 and over. Membership is not required.

SeniorNet Computer Learning Center

SeniorNet is dedicated to teaching computer skills to older adults. Located in the South End Senior Center, courses include Introduction to Computer, Internet and Email, Quicken, Graphics, Word Processing, and Digital Photography.

Fitness Classes for All Fitness Levels

Powerful Aging – aerobic exercise with weight training and stretching.
Tai Chi – slow moving form of exercise. Strengthens and tones muscles to improve balance, posture, and helps you to relax. Day and evening programs available.
Yoga – enhances your balance and flexibility.
Senior Aquarobics - low-impact exercise held at the EH Middle School. For more information or to register, call 528-1458.

Dance

Both Ballroom and Tap Dance Lessons are given at the Senior Center. It is good exercise and an enjoyable social activity.

Friday Night Dances take place every Friday night at the South End Senior Center at 7:00 PM. There is no cover charge but a $3 donation is appreciated.

Square Dancing offered bythe South Windsor Square Dance Club meets pm Wednesday evenings at the North End Senior Center at 7:30 PM. Beginner lessons are available. Admission is $5.

Mostly Waltz offered by the Hartford Community Dance organization meets once a month at the South End Senior Center. Beginner lessons are availabnle. Admission is $10. For more information and the schedule of danes, please contact Phil Carlson at 633-8524.

Creative Expression

The Senior Center has Painting and Embroidery classes.

A Writing Workshop is currently forming. If you are interested in signing up, please call 568-4281.

A Knitting Class is also forming. Please call 568-4281 to register.

Also new, beginning in August 2007, is a Hand Building Clay Class. Call 568-4281 for more information.

Clubs

Also available are two senior clubs. These clubs have been operated by dedicated volunteers for thirty years. The clubs offer a variety of programs in addition to those listed in this directory including bingo, exercise, line dancing, card games, bus trips and special events. Annual membership is required.
